Special Educational Needs (SEND) at Dubmire

At Dubmire, the achievement, attitude and well-being of every child matters and inclusion is the responsibility of everyone within our school. Every teacher is a teacher of every pupil, including those with SEND. We respect the unique contribution which every individual can make to our school community and we strive to ensure a culture of belonging exists for all.

Special Educational Needs (SEND) at Dubmire

Our school SENCO is Mrs L. Rowntree. Mrs Rowntree gained the The National Award for SEN Coordination in 2013. She is supported by Mrs S. Darcy who gained her SEN Award in 2022. Both can be contacted by calling the school office - 0191 5005958 or if your child is in our school a message can be sent using Class Dojo.

We aim to meet the needs of all children with SEND in the following 4 main areas of need.

  • Communication and interaction
  • Cognition and learning
  • Social, emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Sensory and/or physical needs

If your child has been identified as having a Special Educational Need, a Support Plan will be created.

At Dubmire we use a stepped approach to support all children (assess, plan do, review cycle) We call this a Graduated Response. Click on the link to find out more.

As a school, we recognise that having a child with SEND can be a scary thought. You are not alone and we are here to help and guide you and answer as many questions that you might have. Here are some additional links to outside services which may also help:

What is the Local Authorities (LA) Local Offer?

Local Authorities (LA) and schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs (SEND) aged 0-25. This is the 'Local Offer'.

The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the local area.  Click the link to Sunderland Service Directory.
